This Weekend, Missy Elliott Will Make Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame History

“When you’re a hip hop star, [The Rock Hall] seems so out far of reach,” Missy Elliott says with some awe in her voice.

The Rock Hall inducts the class of 2023 this weekend, where Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott will become its first female hip hop artist. She bears the weight of that honor, not to mention the added significance of 2023 being hip hop’s unofficial 50th anniversary, with grace. She also shares her battles with anxiety, like before her Super Bowl Halftime Show cameo with Katy Perry, and health issues.

On Saturday night, November 3, fans will be able to livestream the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction for the first time thanks to Disney+. The stream will remain available on-demand following the ceremony.

Home viewers should be warned, Rock Hall inductions are famously long, yet fun affairs. In duration, they often exceed the big award shows; yet the atmosphere is much more loose and music-forward. In past years when HBO held the broadcast rights, even edited and condensed Rock Hall ceremonies would still sometimes clock in around four hours. Expect lengthy induction speeches, poignant montages, and tons of live performances. It’s music nerd heaven.
